With historic night, Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg flashes potential of an ‘NBA superstar’
51+ min ago (932+ words) INGLEWOOD, Calif. " Cooper Flagg knew exactly what his team needed as soon as it lost yet another member of the starting lineup to an injury just minutes before the national anthem. The Mavericks needed his best scoring night since entering the NBA. And his best was delivered. Flagg dominated on the offensive end in Saturday's win over the LA Clippers and scored a career-high 35 points to become the youngest player in NBA history to do so. That point total also stands as the most by any rookie this season, eclipsing VJ Edgecombe's 34 points. "It's an honor," Flagg said. "It's pretty cool to be in this position and I just feel blessed just to have this opportunity to be here in this league. " I have incredible teammates and coaches around me who put me in positions to do this." Mavericks coach…...
Mavs’ Mark Cuban responds to Anthony Edwards’ callout over free-throw routine change
1+ hour, 14+ min ago (406+ words) According to Anthony Edwards, Mark Cuban played a key role in the Timberwolves star's decision to change his free-throw routine. After Minnesota's 119-115 win over the Boston Celtics on Saturday night, Edwards told reporters that comments from "some famous guy" brought attention to his free-throw form. In the past, Edwards would take a step forward as he followed through on his free throws. "Some famous guy went on Instagram or went on a podcast and was talking about my free throws and he brought it to the attention of everybody so I had to change it," Edwards said. While it appeared he tried to keep his comments vague, Edwards later mentioned Cuban as the influence behind his change. Cuban, the longtime Mavericks governor-turned-minority owner, responded to Edwards' comments through a social media post on Sunday morning. "This has nothing to do…...
From classroom to cold case: How UTA students helped Arlington police in 1991 slaying
6+ hour, 10+ min ago (1653+ words) For over three decades, Jessica Roberts never knew the identity of the person who fatally shot her mother before dumping Cynthia Gonzalez's body in a wooded, rural stretch of Johnson County. But in early November, her phone rang. Roberts was shocked when she received a call from Arlington police saying they had made an arrest in the unsolved case that had grown cold during the ensuing years. "I was just beside myself," she said tearfully, during a news conference at Arlington police headquarters on Nov. 17, when the department first announced news of an arrest. "I'm still processing this." Police said Janie Perkins, 63, a woman considered at the time to be a friend of Gonzalez, was now in custody and charged with capital murder in the slaying. Investigators say now they believe Gonzalez and Perkins were in a love triangle with…...
Jerry Jones raves about KaVontae Turpin’s game-saving fumble recovery vs. Chiefs
6+ hour, 12+ min ago (340+ words) It's nice when your boss notices all the hard work you've been putting in. Cowboys' wide receiver and return specialist KaVontae Turpin had owner Jerry Jones raving on Friday during his weekly interview on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM), thanks to a high-effort play that may have helped save the Cowboys' season. In the fourth quarter of Thursday's Thanksgiving matchup against the Chiefs, the Cowboys were holding onto a one-possession lead, but were driving and looking for what would be a dagger score. On a third down deep in Chiefs territory, QB Dak Prescott found WR George Pickens on a short pass. Pickens made a move, took a hit and fumbled. At the time the ball hit the ground, no one was around it but a couple of Chiefs, and Cowboys fans everywhere were probably seeing flashes of a Kansas City recovery…...

It marked a career night for Flagg, who finished with 35 points to help the Mavericks claim a 114-110 win over the LA Clippers on Saturday night. One night before at Crypto.Com Arena, Flagg's playmaking was on full display. Win, and the Mustangs would be in the ACC championship game for the second consecutive season. Lose, and their chances to compete for a national championship end in Berkeley. The Mustangs didn't make it so simple. No. 21 SMU (8-4, 6-2) was upset 38-35 by California (7-5, 4-4). SMU put together a valiant comeback effort to overcome a 17-point fourth quarter deficit with 2:22 to play, but SMU defense couldn't stop California from scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 42 seconds remaining. When SMU had a chance to force overtime with a 52-yard field goal, Sam Keltner missed wide right. Virginia, the only other team in the ACC with full control of its own destiny Saturday, took care of business to secure one spot in Charlotte next weekend.
